About this event
Join us on this National Day of Service as we uplift incarcerated members of our communities with the power of knowledge through a book drive. This is a virtual event where resources will be offered in order to help you help support some of the most vulnerable in your community through donating, participating in our book drive, or letter-writing (for those who are not able to donate).
This event is honored to feature guest speaker Ryan “Flaco” Rising the founder of the University of California Santa Barbara’s Underground Scholars Chapter. Ryan is a formerly incarcerated life coach and mass incarceration and gang expert. After the guest Q&A we will screen the documentary, Breaking the Cycle where the warden of Halden, Norway’s most humane prison, tours the U.S. prison system to urge a new approach emphasizing rehabilitation. There will be a post-screening discussion and attendees will be supplied with a toolkit of resources to help uplift their communities!
