Ways to help

Mentor

We are looking for both male and female mentors to be matched with one of our kids/young adults in a one-on-one relationship. Some common activities are going out to eat, visiting the library, going for a hike, playing in the park, watching a sports game, but no matter what the activity is, the young person is given the chance to begin to trust others, feel cared for, and witness positive role modeling. We ask that mentors commit to at least 1 year with us.

Childcare Volunteer

The Home for Little Wanderers is looking for volunteers to help with childcare at our newest program - the Family Resource Center of Suffolk County. The FRC is looking for a few individuals who love working with kids to be able to provide a safe and fun environment for the kids while their parents are in the workshops on-site. Childcare activities include arts and crafts, board games, read aloud, sing-alongs, and other engaging and creative ideas you may have!

Individual opportunities

The types of volunteer opportunities at The Home vary widely, from leading a weekly activity at one of our programs to providing administrative support. Whether you work directly with the kids or "behind the scenes," your contribution will make a difference for the children and families in our care. A few examples of volunteer roles we have placed in our programs before are: mentors, tutors, classroom assistants and activity coordinators.
