Ways to help | Transportation SpecialistTransport blood from collection site to Red Cross laboratory. Must have a valid state driver's license, 3 years driving experience, and a safe driving record.Communications: Social Engagement VolunteerTo engage supporters, partners, volunteers and donors in the work of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts. Social media volunteers can sign up for disaster cycle services shifts or work independently. Time commitment is flexible but requires a minimum of four shifts per month.Fundraising Stewardship VolunteerAssist with thanking our donors through acknowledgement letters, thank you phone calls, and other stewardship materials. Not only will you be helping the American Red Cross carry out its mission, but you will also gain professional fundraising experience with a well-recognized and respected international organization.Disaster Action Team: MemberTo serve on a Disaster Action Team and help provide 24-hour immediate support and assistance to individuals and families who have been impacted by a home fire or other local disaster. Works as part of an assigned team to respond to local disasters within two hours.Operations: Office SupportPerform reception, computer data support and other activities at the American Red Cross office. Shifts are four hours and volunteers are asked to commit to 1-2 shifts per week.Communications: Photographer/Videographer/Visual StorytellerAssist the Red Cross in delivering its mission by taking and sharing photos and/or video to showcase the Red Cross at work, both in disaster and non-disaster times.Disaster Services: Health ServicesDisaster Health Services (DHS) volunteers are on call to provide a medical professional presence as part of the DAT Team and during larger-scale disasters, primarily in the event that a shelter or evacuation center is opened. Active and unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Practice Nurse, Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathy, Physician Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic , Retired RN/LPN/LVN if the state in which the license is granted allows for full scope of practice for the volunteer.Community Volunteer LeaderA Community Volunteer Leader is a single point of contact for a community or collection of communities with the primary goal of connecting the community with the Red Cross mission. This position requires 10-20 hours per month and a commitment of at least two years.Pillowcase Project TraineeSave lives and prevent injury by providing leadership and/or support to Disaster Cycle Services team members through The Pillowcase Project. The Pillowcase Project is a national youth preparedness program offered by Red Cross regions across the country. The presentation provides emergency preparedness education to youth in grades 3-5 (ages 8-11) in school classrooms and other settings. Numerous tools have been developed for this program including a standardized curriculum, workbook, quizzes and activities which have been carefully constructed with the help of curriculum and hazard experts. The highly interactive presentation addresses home fire safety, a local natural hazard, psycho-social coping skills and household preparedness steps like making a plan and a kit. Worker roles include either being a presenter or presentation assistant.Home Fire Campaign TraineeSave lives and prevent injury by being a member of the Home Fire Campaign team. Specific roles could vary, including being a member of Home Visit teams to install smoke alarms and educate residents, conduct neighborhood canvassing, facilitate planning events, and more according to local program needs and structure. |

How you help | A volunteer corps of thousands are trained to be ready when the time comes to assist communities in Massachusetts and nationally. Volunteers make up 95 percent of the Red Cross workforce and train in specialties such as shelter management, mass feeding, technology and casework. |
