Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampden County is a non-profit, nationally affiliated agency that matches children and youth to caring adult volunteers in consistent one-to-one mentoring relationships. BBBSHC has provided mentoring services to youth in Hampden County, as well as the towns of Granby and South Hadley, since the agency’s inception in 1967. We are one of the 370 affiliates of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA), meeting all required standards and procedures for full member status. BBBSHC is Hampden County’s premier mentoring agency, providing consistently high-quality services with measurable impact. BBBSHC continues to expand its original and most enduring program, the Community-Based Mentoring Program, in which volunteers and children do activities together out in the community. Additionally, the agency initiated its first school-based mentoring program in 1995. Both as a BBBS agency and within our network, BBBSHC has a strong track record of building quality mentoring relationships and has won numerous awards in recognition of its continued commitment to program excellence. BBBSHC’s program evaluations continually demonstrate that participating youth experience numerous positive outcomes, including greater self-confidence, improving relationships with peers, improving academic performance, and improving attitudes toward school. Big Brothers Big Sisters targets the children who need us most, including those living in single parent homes, growing up in poverty and coping with parental incarceration. Having a positive, caring adult in a young person’s life can often be the difference between failure and success – in school, at home, and in life. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampden County (BBBSHC) mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
