Ways to help | Mentor a Young Person with a DisabilityMentoring can’t happen without mentors! We’re seeking more caring adults that would be interested in volunteering as role models and supports for young adults with disabilities. Mentees are between the ages of 6-22 years. Volunteers are 18+ and will need to complete an interview, background check, and training session with us.Host a Guest Lecture, Job Shadow, or Mock InterviewThrough our Career Readiness program, we prepare youths with the skills to succeed in their professional lives by addressing the barriers to employment for youth and young adults with disabilities. We enrich our curriculum with real-world experiences, featuring our volunteers - possibly you! We are looking for individuals willing to host guest lectures, a job shadow, or mock interviews. We have opportunities to volunteer virtually as well as in person. Do you want to tell youths about your job in IT, animal services, or community activism? Do you want to help youths with disabilities develop effective resumes and conduct successful interviews? Do you want to show off your place of employment with a job shadow? Then this is the volunteer opportunity for you! If you're attending post-secondary education, maybe you'd like to talk about the classes you're taking, your extracurriculars, maybe a cool internship you completed or are looking forward to!We welcome all volunteers 18+ who are interested in engaging directly with youths with disabilities in career and education exploration. |

About us | Partners for Youth with Disabilities (PYD) empowers young people with disabilities to reach their full potential for personal development. Despite progress made in disability rights over the past 30 years, individual and institutional ableism still exist in the world today. Disability remains highly stigmatized, and people with disabilities continue to be denied equal opportunity, access, and independence. We work to change this status quo. We offer various programs such as Access to Theatre, Making Healthy Connections, Mentor Match, and the Youth Entrepreneurs Project. |
