Ways to help

Mentor with Big Brother Big Sisters

Get together with your match twice per month for a few hours at a time, and take part in low- to no-cost activities that interest both of you. Go for a hike, get ice cream, or hang out at your house and watch movies—whatever the two of you would enjoy. These relationships are more about being present together than planning extravagant outings.

Academic Coach

In the Homework Club, volunteer mentors are matched with METCO scholars between grades 3-5 to help them stay on track with their math and ELA learning. With one or two virtual meetings a week throughout the school year, students will strengthen organizational skills and get the work done.

About us Founded in 1966, METCO is the largest school desegregation program in the country. It is the commonwealth’s only program designed to address the long standing racial segregation in our public schools. METCO creates environments where students, parents and teachers of different backgrounds can appreciate diversity, find common ground through shared experiences, build lifelong friendships between diverse students, and strive toward the mutual goal of preparing young people to become global citizens. METCO supports 3,300 students annually in 33 participating suburban school districts and 190 public schools.
