Opportunities

Grocery Shopping/Community Errands

Available to run a few errands for someone in need? During the COVID-19 crisis, we are advising all consumers to order groceries online. However, some consumers are unable to utilize online delivery services, and often there are large backlogs to ordering online. MABVI will connect volunteers who are willing and able to grocery shop for consumers. The volunteer will collect funds, purchase groceries, and deliver groceries in a contact-free way.

TeleFriends

In this role, volunteers provide consumer companionship. Many consumers feel isolated and would like to connect with someone over the phone once a week. The program will connect a volunteer and consumer as TeleFriends. The volunteer will call and check-in on the consumer, chat, and provide companionship via phone. With the TeleFriends program, we hope to alleviate the feeling of social isolation and create friendships that will last a lifetime.

Reading Mail/Clerical Tasks

Volunteering is a great way to help a neighbor stay up to date on all information, bills, and correspondence. Volunteers can help sort, organize, and pay bills by opening and reading mail to consumers. This can be done in person where volunteers and consumers are required to meet outside, and stay 6 feet apart. (See safety guidelines for full details). This can also be done virtually if a consumer and volunteer has the capability to use a platform such as Zoom or FaceTime.

About us

The Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired offers vision rehabilitation services to elders with vision loss, 32 support groups across the state, low vision clinics, and a volunteer program that provides assistance to the blind from volunteers in their community.
