Our mission

To provide free postpartum and early parenting support to families with babies and young children living in Western Massachusetts, and to inspire the community to welcome the newest members of their Village.
Opportunities

Home Visit Volunteers

Home-visits are the heart of what we do. Volunteers are matched with a family for weekly, two-hour visits for up to 12 weeks during the first year of a baby’s (or babies’) life. Volunteers provide companionship, play with older children, prepare meals, wash dishes, and help in other ways that an extended family member or neighbor might. This position requires flexibility, good communication skills, access to reliable transportation. Volunteers should be comfortable with babies and young children.Time commitment: 2 hours per week for 12 weeks. We can reimburse volunteers for miles driven to and from the family’s home at $0.14 per mile.

Village Closet Volunteers

At our donation site in Huntington, we always need help sorting and putting away donations, assisting families taking items to their cars, and gathering items for deliveries. Time commitment: as little or as much as you like, whenever the Village Closet is open. Ages 14+.

Donation Delivery Drivers

Sometimes we need help getting donated items to and from our Village Closet. The volunteer driver may bring items from the Closet directly to a family, or else meet up with a volunteer who will bring the items the rest of the way.This position requires good communication skills, flexibility, and reliable transportation. Time commitment: about 1-2 hours per month.

How you help

Our volunteer provide essential support to new families by helping out at The Village Closet, becoming home visit volunteers, delivering donations to families that may not have the transportation to get to the Village Closet and more!
About us

It Takes a Village provides parents and caregivers the opportunity to secure their own postpartum safety-nets. Families are given the resources to combat the isolation, that is so common in rural areas, and communities are transformed into an indispensable support system.
