Ways to help

Tutor students in ESOL classes

We train volunteers for the Allies for Immigrants: ESOL Corps, which we run in partnership with Boston Cares. Volunteers support a classroom teacher, facilitate a small group in an integrated ESOL/technology skills course, lead a conversation group or citizenship class, tutor a student one-on-one, or coordinate Allies for Immigrants tutors at a program.

Events

English for New Bostonians holds events throughout the year and frequently need volunteers to help support them in roles such as on-site registration, set-up and breakdown, and other logistics.

Conduct Mock Interviews

We arrange mock interview events throughout the year for immigrants interested in practicing their job interview skills. We are looking for professionals in many different career areas and are especially interested in those who have experience in human resources or hiring. We occasionally have additional opportunities to get involved with skills trainings, job fairs, or other career-related events.

About usWe are an activist grantmaking organization that funds over 20 high quality English language learning programs that provide free or very low-cost instruction to more than 1,100 immigrants each year. We conduct community and policy research and share it with English learning language programs, policymakers, funders, and employers. Through our English Works campaign, we elevate immigrants’ own voices among employers, community leaders, students, unions, and educators to advocate for greater public and private investment in English language learning programs.
