Ways to help

Volunteer

We need people to walk, play and groom the dogs; groom and cuddle the cats; help with adoption clinics and special events; help with fundraising planning and events; and people that can help out weekend evenings are especially needed. Volunteers should be 18 years old. Those 16 and older can volunteer with written parental or guardian consent, and those under age 16 can volunteer but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Foster Volunteer

Sonsini Animal Shelter is looking for foster families for kittens and puppies under two months old, mothers with nursing litters, dogs and cats with medical conditions or injuries, and special needs animals. The typical foster stay is two weeks to two months, depending on the needs of the individual animal(s) in your care. The Sonsini Shelter provides bedding and toys, as well as all medical care for the animals in foster homes, including vaccination, medications and spay/neuter surgery. Foster families are asked to provide exercise, socialization and lots of love!

How you helpVolunteers are essential to the successful operation of any animal shelter. We are fortunate to have several caring men and women here at our shelter, but there is always room for more animal lovers to help out.
About usThe Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter, an animal shelter and adoption facility nestled in the Berkshires, is managed by Friends of Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter, Inc., a non-profit, 501(c)(3) public charity. We are dedicated to re-uniting stray animals from many towns in the Berkshires (including Lanesboro, Dalton, Hinsdale and Hancock) with their owners, providing shelter and veterinary care for animals in need, and finding loving homes for adoptable, homeless animals.
