Opportunities	Volunteer Patient and Family Facilitator (VPFF) VPFF provide friendly support, guidance, and access to helpful information to patients and their families to help ease anxiety and frustration during treatment. The VPFF assists in self-advocacy and identifying and accessing relevant resources while providing empathy and support and compassion. (2 years of volunteer experience at DF required) Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays Pharmacy Volunteer Ambassador Patients needing to pick up medications may experience a long line at the pharmacy pick-up window. Some patients mistakenly stand in the pharmacy line even though they are not here to pick up medications but are rather here for other services such as registration, parking, or labs. You’ll help to ensure that we are helping and directing the line and at the same time making sure patients don’t stand in line for the other services. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays Chaplaincy Volunteer Chaplain associate volunteers are an essential service within the Center for Spiritual Care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, providing spiritual and religious support to patients, families, and staff. Cancer can be a challenging and demanding experience, and chaplain associate volunteers – along with staff chaplains – are an integral part of the health care team offering spiritual care. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal, Skilled Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Friends Corner Gift Shop Volunteer Assist our customers in choosing that special gift for any occasion staff the Friends Corner Gift Shop. You’ll have the opportunity to offer words of encouragement to patients living with cancer. We need dependable, reliable, attentive people who are willing to give a full day every week. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends One-to-One Program Volunteer Our One-to-One program links individuals who have already experienced diagnosis and treatment with those who are facing it for the first time. You’ll talk to patients and families via telephone about the treatment experience, guide them through the hospital system, and discuss available resources. (Volunteers are cancer survivors, caregivers, and family members who have completed specialized training.) Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Ambassador Program Provide patients, family members, visitors, and staff with friendly and helpful volunteers who offer directions; escort patients to appointments while helping answer questions along the way; provide one-on-one support to help a patient or family member — someone who might otherwise feel lost and overwhelmed, and provide information about Dana-Farber programs and resources. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Eleanor and Maxwell Blum Patient and Family Resource Center Volunteer Provide support to patients and their families visiting the resource centers; to empower patients to learn more about disease and treatments options; to help the staff run an efficient and smooth operation. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Creative Arts Program Volunteer Offer patients and family members opportunities to engage in arts and crafts experiences. Examples include adult coloring, painting and sketching, fiber craft, decoupage, and more. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Concierge Services Volunteer Assist at the Concierge Service desk and help patients find information about resources at Dana-Farber and the Boston community. You’ll work closely with the Program Manager to ensure that patients and families are directed in a timely manner to the services and programs they’re looking for. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Environmental Music Volunteer Provide relaxing music to enhance the environment of the Yawkey 1 lobby and Yawkey 2 waiting area. Volunteers will work closely with the Program Manager to ensure that high-quality service is delivered. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Skilled Weekdays Junior Volunteer Program Dana-Farber’s Junior Volunteer Program is a highly competitive program accepting a small number of high school students aged 16 to 18. The program runs from the first week in July through mid-August. Applicants must be able to commit to one 8-hour day a week (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) for the full six weeks. Weekly Teens Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays Bone Marrow Donor Recruitment Associate Help with setup and preparation of the space for the donor drive (signs, information table, swabbing station etc.); assisting with donor registration (reviewing consents, preparing swab kits, assisting with the swabbing process); greeting attendees and answering questions; help with event closing including packaging, materials inventory and clean up. Occasional, Monthly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Reiki Volunteer The goal of the Reiki Volunteer Program is to provide a Reiki treatment upon request, or by referral, for every patient walking through the doors of Dana-Farber on the day of their first visit for treatment of their disease. Certified Reiki practitioners, under the guidance of Zakim Center staff, will provide complimentary 15-minute Reiki Treatments in patient care areas. You must be Certified Reiki Level II Practitioners. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Skilled Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Food Cart Volunteer Provide a warm and welcoming presence for patients and their families and attend to patients’ comfort needs. Provide refreshments and engage in friendly conversation with patients and their families. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends Blum Family Resource Center Van Volunteer The Blum Family Resource Center Van is a 39-ft. mobile health clinic that brings free Sun Safety and Skin Cancer Prevention education, as well as free skin cancer screenings to the general public, with a focus on at-risk and under-served communities. Health Educators educate the public on how to stay safe in the sun while still enjoying its rays, and how to identify the warning signs for skin cancer, as well as ways to prevent it. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor, Outdoor Formal Weekdays, Weekends Front Desk Volunteer The Information Desk is the first point of contact for patients coming to Dana-Farber. The staff and volunteers, therefore, set the tone for all patient visits. Patients may need assistance with their appointments for the day, directions to their clinic, and other areas. You’ll make sure this process is as seamless for patients as possible. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays Summer Volunteer Program Participate in our summer program. Applications are required & due the 1st Friday in April. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays Hands on Care Volunteer As a trained volunteer, under the guidance of the licensed massage therapist, you’ll provide a 15-minute hand massage. The service is the application of a gentle, tender, soothing, touch to the hands. Weekly 21+, 55+, Adults Individuals Indoor Formal Weekdays Book Cart Volunteer Travel throughout the adult clinics offering reading material for patients and their families. Provide comfort to patients through conversation and general support, explaining the different services and programs that help the patients through their cancer journey.
