Food Transportation

Berkshire Bounty has implemented significant operational changes since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. These changes include the following:
  1. Increased the amount of food purchased from our supermarket and food wholesaler food sources which was made possible by the significant increase in the number of donations and grants received by BB over the last few months.
  2. Expanded our impact through our participation in a groundswell coalition made up of funding sources, area school districts and other non-profits involved in the food insecurity movement in the Berkshires.
  3. Focused our collection and delivery efforts on larger food sources and distribution organizations in order to maximize our efficiency and productivity.
  4. Increased the number of volunteers which was particularly useful in light of the temporary withdrawal of a good number of our older volunteers who understandably chose to more rigorously shelter-in-place in order to minimize their health risk exposure.
  5. Converted our refrigerated storage space to a community resource in order to allow other organizations access thereby making the space into a centralized distribution center.

How you help* Pick-up donated excess food and purchased food from supermarkets, farms and other food sources and deliver the collected food to pantries and other food distribution organizations which, in turn, delivers the food to those in need.* Pick fruit from trees of property owners in South County.* Participate in Berkshire Bounty's monthly food drive by picking up donated food from homeowners and delivering the collected food to People's Pantry in Great Barrington.
About usBerkshire Bounty collects excess fresh produce, baked goods and meats from supermarkets, farms, homeowners and owners of fruit bearing trees. We deliver that food to pantries and other distribution organizations in South County and Pittsfield which then make that food available to those in need. Relying on the generous donations from many people, Berkshire Bounty also purchases and distributes nutritious food that typically is not included in the excess food we regularly collect from food donors.
