Ways to help

Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. In fact, they are the legs, arms, and brains, too. They are essential to our success and, as much as they give to ACE, ACE gives back to them. Working with our students will change their lives… and yours. Volunteer positions are available from one up to five days a week in our After School, Saturday, and Summer Programs. Volunteers provide tutoring, behavioral assistance, mentoring, and friendship to our students.

Mentor

Relationships are at the heart of everything we do, and few are more important than that of a mentor and mentee. Become a mentor as part of our Mentoring for Empowerment & Exchange program and build a long-term relationship with one of our students. A relationship built on mutual respect and trust, service, and giving makes all the difference for our students.

How you help Our students often arrive with severe gaps in their education, having little to no formal education before coming to the U.S. Our parents balance raising a family with understanding a new culture, learning a new language, and supporting their loved ones financially. With the help of dedicated volunteers and staff, we are rewriting these students’ and families’ futures. Over 95% of our students graduate high school and enter the workforce or a two- or four-year college. Our students have gone on to attend world-class institutions like Brandeis University, Clark University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. They have gone on to be graduate students, accountants, nurses, and professional performers. Most importantly, they are changing their communities by sharing their unique experiences, outlook on life, and understanding of our world with those around them.
About us The African Community Education (ACE) Program is a non-profit community organization that was established to address the educational needs of African refugee and immigrant students now living and attending school in Worcester, Massachusetts. The students attending this program have come to the U.S. from nations suffering from war and political or social instability. As a result, these children were unable to engage in meaningful schooling during their childhood. When they arrive in the U.S., they are enrolled in school according to their age, rather than their actual level of education; thus, they are often years behind their peers in most subjects. Fortunately, many of these children are bright and motivated, and ACE seeks to draw on these strengths to close the gaps with their education. To meet the needs of this population, ACE has developed a Saturday program with formal STEM classes, a one-on-one tutoring and Mentoring program, as well as life skills courses and extracurricular activities, such as dance, soccer and art.
