Ways to help | Future Protectors Initiative MentorsABCD’s Youth Services Department is looking for FPI Mentors to provide mentorship for program participants residing in high-crime, high-poverty neighborhoods along Boston’s Blue Hill Avenue corridor over a 6 month period. This program aims to introduce Boston's youth to career opportunities in the fields of law enforcement, emergency medical services, firefighting, and government service. This program is a wonderful way for volunteers to give back by mentoring FPI students and sharing tips and tricks to succeeding in college and beyond.Field Operations Volunteer - SE/NSCABCD’s network of neighborhood offices are the first point of contact for many individuals and families in need of critical services. The Field Operations Volunteer will assist staff in the daily operations of the neighborhood program such as food pantry operations, client intake, front desk and phone coverage, data entry, and research of referral agencies and community resources.TutorThe Youth Services Department is looking for tutors to provide academic assistance to Boston Public School students participating in an afterschool job placement program that helps youth stay in school.Youth Services AmbassadorThe Youth Services Department is looking for Ambassadors to provide support and assistance to all programs in the department. Youth Services provides work-readiness programs to youth in the Boston area between the ages of 14 and 24 years old through our 5 different programs. We do this through career readiness workshops, college courses, mentoring, and internship placement during the school year and summer to gain valuable soft skills and industry-specific training.Group OpportunitiesABCD offers many meaningful group volunteer opportunities that can meet your organization’s needs while making a difference in the lives of the people we serve. Our dedicated partners form an important link between our clients and the Greater Boston community. Groups can contribute through food pantry assistance, tutoring, mentoring, organizing workshops, organizing tax preparers, providing event assistance, and more.Housing InternABCD’s Housing and Homelessness Prevention Department works with clients to give them the assistance and skills they need to maintain their households or find new housing that is safe and affordable. The Housing Intern will assist the Housing Counselor to provide direct support to participants in search of permanent housing.VITA Tax PreparerABCD is seeking IRS-certified tax preparation volunteers to prepare free returns for low-to-moderate income taxpayers as part of the VITA program. Volunteers will use online tax preparation software at tax sites throughout the agency to help taxpayers claim tax credits for which they may be eligible and to provide assistance in accordance with IRS guidelines and applicable ABCD policies. Tax sites are located throughout the city of Boston and in Malden. |
